Our CTO Named One of YNaija’s 100 Most Impactful People in Tech

Efiwe’s Co-founder and CTO, Chidi Nwaogu, has been recognized by YNaija as one of the 100 most impactful people in Nigeria’s tech ecosystem, a definitive list celebrating the founders, engineers, and innovators driving the continent’s digital future.

Chidi Nwaogu, co-founder and CTO of Efiwe, has been named to YNaija’s Tech 100, a definitive list of the most influential figures shaping Nigeria’s technology landscape. The recognition places him among a distinguished group of builders, executives, and innovators whose work is transforming industries across fintech, health tech, edtech, logistics, and beyond. It also reflects the growing visibility of Efiwe as a platform with both local roots and global reach. For a company built on the conviction that talent is everywhere but opportunity is not, this acknowledgment from one of Nigeria’s most respected media voices carries particular weight.

The YNaija Tech 100 is published by YNaija, a leading Nigerian digital media platform known for its coverage of culture, politics, and technology. The list is compiled to spotlight individuals whose contributions have meaningfully advanced the Nigerian tech ecosystem, recognizing not just commercial success but lasting impact on how technology is built, taught, and experienced across Africa. Being included signals not only personal achievement, but a broader endorsement of the mission Chidi has dedicated his career to.

Chidi’s journey in tech began early. He started coding at 13, was building indie video games by 16, and by 19 had co-founded LAGbook, a social network that reached over one million users before being acquired in 2013, making him one of Africa’s youngest and most successful tech entrepreneurs at the time. That foundation of building real things for real people never left him. Years later, after witnessing firsthand how aspiring learners across Africa were being locked out of coding education by a lack of laptops and unreliable internet, he channeled that experience into building Efiwe: a mobile-first, AI-powered coding education platform that works offline, supports 189 languages, and requires nothing more than a smartphone to get started.

What makes Chidi’s recognition particularly meaningful is what it represents beyond the individual. Efiwe has grown to more than 10,000 learners across 121 countries since its launch in August 2025, with a completion rate that stands in stark contrast to the industry norm. Where traditional online coding courses lose 70 to 80 percent of their students, Efiwe has recorded near-zero dropout among its focus group completers. That outcome is not accidental; it is the result of deliberate, research-backed design choices made by a team that understands both the technology and the human reality of the learners it serves.

YNaija’s Tech 100 also features some of Nigeria’s most celebrated names in tech, including Shola Akinlade of Paystack, Olugbenga Agboola of Flutterwave, Tosin Eniolorunda of Moniepoint, and Bosun Tijani, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy. Being listed alongside these figures underscores the calibre of impact Chidi and Efiwe are being recognized for, and the company they are now keeping in the story of African tech.

For Efiwe, this milestone adds to a year of growing recognition. The platform was also named by the International Telecommunication Union as one of the world’s most innovative AI education startups, shortlisted for the 2026 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation by the Royal Academy of Engineering, and has continued to expand its curriculum, accessibility features, and global footprint. Each milestone builds on the last, pointing toward a platform that is no longer simply growing, but being acknowledged at the highest levels as a model for what inclusive, technology-driven education can look like.

The recognition belongs as much to the mission as to the man. Chidi Nwaogu’s inclusion in the YNaija Tech 100 is a reflection of what becomes possible when a founder refuses to design only for the privileged few. As Efiwe continues to scale, the goal remains unchanged: to ensure that wherever there is a smartphone and the will to learn, there is a path forward.
