Responsible AI Policy

This Responsible AI Policy outlines Efiwe's commitment to building and operating AI that is safe, fair, privacy-preserving, transparent, accessible, and aligned with human learning and dignity.

This Responsible AI Policy (“Policy”) applies to all AI systems, models, data, and features used in Efiwe products and services, operated by Efiwe (“we,” “our,” or “us”). By accessing or using our services, you agree to comply with and be bound by this Policy.

1. Our Commitment

Efiwe exists to remove barriers to education and opportunity. Our AI systems are designed to expand human potential, not replace it, and to serve learners who are traditionally excluded from digital education due to poverty, language, disability, or connectivity constraints.

We commit to building and operating AI that is:

  • Safe
  • Fair
  • Privacy-preserving
  • Transparent
  • Accessible
  • Aligned with human learning and dignity

Our AI is not a general chatbot. It is a learning companion, and we treat it with the same ethical standards that would apply to a human teacher.

2. What Efiwe’s AI Does

Efiwe’s AI systems are used to:

  • Analyze learner code and detect errors
  • Provide hints and step-by-step guidance
  • Adapt pacing and difficulty
  • Adjust text-to-speech and language
  • Personalize learning paths
  • Support low-literacy and multilingual learners

These systems operate primarily on-device, offline, using lightweight models.

We do not use AI to:

  • Make hiring decisions
  • Grade or rank learners against each other
  • Predict income, intelligence, or future success
  • Perform surveillance, profiling, or behavioral advertising

3. Human-Centered Design

Efiwe AI is designed to support learning, not control it.

We enforce the following rules:

  • AI never withholds educational content to manipulate behavior
  • AI never pressures users to spend money
  • AI never shames, threatens, or discourages learners
  • AI always encourages retrying, curiosity, and growth

Mistakes are treated as part of learning — not failure.

4. Fairness and Bias Prevention

Because Efiwe serves learners across 189 languages, cultures, and education levels, fairness is critical.

We actively test and audit AI behavior to ensure it does not:

  • Favor any nationality, race, gender, or region
  • Penalize learners for grammar, accent, or language level
  • Assume access to laptops, fast internet, or prior schooling

We design prompts, hints, and feedback to be:

  • Simple
  • Culturally neutral
  • Supportive
  • Free of stereotypes

5. Privacy-First AI

Efiwe was built for regions where privacy violations can lead to real-world harm.

Our AI architecture follows these principles:

I. On-device first
Learner data (code, progress, mistakes) is stored locally on the user’s device by default.

II. Minimal data collection
We only collect what is strictly needed to:

  • Run the product
  • Improve learning quality
  • Provide certificates or group account dashboards

We do not sell learner data.
We do not use learner data to train advertising systems.
We do not build commercial profiles.

III. No biometric or sensitive data
Efiwe AI does not process:

  • Faces
  • Fingerprints
  • Voice identity
  • Political, religious, or health data

6. Protection of Children and Vulnerable Users

Many Efiwe learners are minors or first-time internet users.

Our AI systems are designed to:

  • Never generate sexual, violent, or harmful content
  • Never request personal contact details
  • Never attempt emotional dependency or manipulation
  • Never give legal, medical, or dangerous advice

We treat all users as high-protection by default.

7. Transparency

We commit to making AI understandable.

Learners are informed that:

  • They are interacting with AI
  • Feedback is generated by machine learning
  • The system may make mistakes

We give users:

  • Control over voice, language, and feedback style
  • The ability to ignore, skip, or override AI suggestions

AI is a guide, not an authority.

8. Reliability and Safety

Because Efiwe is used offline in remote areas, reliability matters.

We ensure:

  • Models are tested for hallucinations and incorrect coding advice
  • Hints are designed to nudge, not give full answers
  • Systems degrade safely if models fail

If AI is uncertain, it defaults to: “Let’s try this together” instead of giving wrong instructions.

9. Continuous Improvement

We continuously monitor:

  • Incorrect or confusing hints
  • Bias across languages and regions
  • User-reported problems
  • Learning outcomes

AI performance is reviewed by humans, not left to self-optimize blindly.

10. Governance

Efiwe’s Responsible AI is overseen by:

  • The CEO
  • The CTO
  • Product and Learning Science leads

Every new AI feature must pass:

  • A safety review
  • A bias review
  • A learner impact review

11. What We Will Never Do

Efiwe will never:

  • Use AI to exploit addiction or desperation
  • Sell learner behavior to third parties
  • Train military, surveillance, or manipulation systems
  • Replace teachers or communities with AI
  • Lock education behind opaque algorithms

12. Our Promise

We believe education is a human right. AI should not become a new gatekeeper that replaces inequality of money with inequality of algorithms. At Efiwe, AI exists for one purpose only:

To help people learn, grow, and unlock their future — regardless of where they were born or what device they own.
