The mobile-first coding education platform introduces on-device account switching, acknowledging that across many of the communities it serves, a device is shared between siblings, classmates, or an entire household, not owned by one person.

Efiwe, the mobile-first coding education platform serving over 13,000 learners across 139 countries, has launched ‘Account Switching’, a feature that lets multiple learners use the same device, each keeping their own progress, without ever needing to fully log out. Starting today, a single device can hold up to twenty saved accounts at once, and moving between them takes one tap.
The idea came directly from the field. Efiwe’s ongoing pilot with Teach For Nigeria (TFN), currently running across ten schools in Lagos and Ogun State, Nigeria, put the platform in the hands of students who, in many cases, don’t each own a phone. A TFN Fellow running the program described it plainly: her students share phones, and the inability to log two accounts into one device was a real barrier, not a minor inconvenience. Until now, every handoff between students meant a full logout, a full login, and the quiet risk that whatever progress hadn’t yet synced to the cloud would simply be gone by the time the next student typed in their password.
‘Account Switching’ removes that risk entirely. The first time a learner logs in on a given device, Efiwe remembers them. A new switch control, sitting next to the existing logout button, opens a short list of everyone who has signed in on that device, each shown by name, photo, and email. Tapping a saved profile syncs the current learner’s progress to the cloud, clears the screen, and brings up the next learner’s progress exactly where they left it; no password required, unless that learner’s saved session has expired, in which case Efiwe simply asks them to sign in once more.
Group accounts, used by teachers and organizations to run their own dashboard, are included too: a group account can still learn like any individual student, so there was no reason to leave it out of the switcher. Anyone who no longer wants their account remembered on a particular device can remove themselves from the list with a single tap, and the regular “Log out” button still does exactly what it always has, signing every saved account out of that device at once.
“We built Efiwe because talent doesn’t wait for someone to own a laptop,” said Chidi Nwaogu, Co-founder and CTO of Efiwe. “It turns out the same is true of phones. A lot of our learners aren’t using their own device, they’re using whichever one is around. ‘Account Switching’ is a small feature, but it’s built around a fact we can’t ignore: for a huge number of the people we’re trying to reach, ‘my phone’ and ‘a phone I can borrow for twenty minutes’ are the same thing.”
Shared-device support is the latest expression of an idea that has shaped Efiwe since launch: that the obstacles standing between a learner and their first line of code are rarely about ability, and almost always about infrastructure. Offline learning, 246 languages, SMS-based access through Efiwe Zero, and now account switching all point at the same reality from different angles, that the conditions Efiwe was designed for are not the exception in much of the world; they’re the default.
