Today, those two convictions meet in a formal partnership.

Efiwe and Teach For Nigeria are launching a structured coding pilot across 10 schools in Lagos and Ogun State, running from May through June 2026. Ten TFN Fellows selected by their Coaches based on existing digital work and curiosity will introduce Efiwe’s HTML, CSS, and JavaScript courses to their students over an 8-week active learning period. The platform is free. No laptops are required. No data bundle is needed once the web app is set up. And the AI tutor that guides every learner through each challenge runs entirely on-device, working whether or not there’s a signal.

How the Partnership Came Together

The conversation between Efiwe and Teach For Nigeria began in February 2026. TFN’s Programs Director, Bosede Ogidan, saw an immediate fit with what TFN Fellows were already trying to do on the ground. “The Efiwe platform’s focus on mobile-first, low-bandwidth coding education is highly relevant to the resource-constrained environments where our Fellows serve,” said Ogidan. “We see significant potential for this to complement our existing digital literacy efforts and provide a low-barrier entry point for students to gain 21st-century skills.”

Over the weeks that followed, both teams moved quickly. Meetings were held, a pilot plan was co-created, and ten Fellows were nominated and shortlisted; each already running some form of digital initiative in their school.

What the Pilot Looks Like

The ten Fellows participating in the pilot represent a wide range of schools and contexts. Seven are based in Ogun State; three in Lagos. Some schools have moderate device access and connectivity. Others are low-resource urban settings where Efiwe’s offline mode will be the primary way learners engage with the platform. What every school has in common is a Fellow who was already trying to equip their students with digital skills before Efiwe arrived.

Fellows like Oluwasegun Mogbojuri, founder of the BrainBox Initiative at Wesley Primary School in Sagamu, who already has 100+ students building projects on Scratch. Or Opeoluwa Yusuf, who leads a STEM Web Development Club at Lagos City College in Yaba, where students are already writing code. Or Habeeb Shittu at African Church Grammar School in Abeokuta, whose Be-The-Change (BTC) Project TechHer is actively drawing more girls into technology. These are not blank-slate classrooms. They are communities where digital curiosity already exists. The pilot is designed to channel that curiosity into structured, measurable coding education.

The structure is intentionally straightforward. Fellows complete Efiwe’s full HTML track themselves first; building their own coding foundation before introducing the platform to students. They then run optional coding sessions in class or as after-school clubs, support students through the one-time web app download and setup (the only step that requires internet), and track weekly activity and completion rates throughout the 8-week period.

What Will Be Measured

Both teams have co-created the metrics framework for the pilot. The data points are practical and grounded: whether each Fellow completes the full HTML track by the end of the pilot; what percentage of enrolled students finish their assigned challenges; how self-reported coding confidence changes for both Fellows and students from start to finish; how many weekly hours Fellows actually spend managing the pilot; and whether Fellows would recommend the platform to others.

Fellows will gather student data simply by clicking the “Export as CSV” button on their Efiwe Group Dashboard and sharing the downloaded file with both the Efiwe and TFN teams. The process was designed to be as low-lift as possible; something that can be done in seconds, without requiring any additional tools or technical steps. “The CSV export approach is quite seamless and Fellows have been briefed on it as part of onboarding,” noted Sunday Daniel, Senior Coach at TFN.

Why Efiwe Works for This Context

Efiwe was built specifically for the kinds of environments TFN Fellows work in every day. Once loaded, the platform works entirely without internet; every Efiwe page can be refreshed offline, and translations, once cached, function offline too. The AI tutor that validates code and gives personalised feedback runs on-device, not in the cloud. This means a student in a school with no reliable signal can still receive real-time guidance on every single coding challenge they attempt.

The platform also supports 189 languages, a detail that matters for this pilot specifically. One of the explicit deliverables TFN and Efiwe have agreed to pursue is the validation of Efiwe’s Yoruba and Igbo language interfaces. “We don’t want learners thinking about connectivity,” said Chidi Nwaogu, Co-founder and CTO of Efiwe. “We want them thinking about code. The best offline experience is one you never have to think about; it’s just there when you need it. That’s as true in Lagos and Ogun as it is anywhere else in the world.”

Available courses in the pilot cover HTML (191 challenges), CSS (298 challenges), and JavaScript (488 challenges). For most students, the journey will begin with HTML, the foundational language of every website they have ever visited, taught challenge by challenge on their own phone.

What Comes Next

The active pilot runs from May through June 2026. In July, Fellows will submit their reflections and the data will be reviewed. TFN and Efiwe will then decide together what happens next: whether the pilot expands to more schools, more Fellows, or a wider cohort.

“We look forward to collaborating with the TFN team on the pilot,” said Chidi Nwaogu. “What we’re building together is a proof point: that coding education can be delivered at scale in Nigerian schools using only smartphones, without placing additional strain on Fellows, teachers, or students.”

For Teach For Nigeria, the partnership represents a new tool in an ongoing effort; one that fits within existing structures rather than creating new ones.

Efiwe, the offline-capable AI coding platform, is partnering with Teach For Nigeria to pilot mobile-first coding education across 10 schools in Lagos and Ogun State, reaching Fellows and students across underserved schools.
